How to get rid of Scabies

Being a very uncomfortable and contagious skin disease, Scabies is a commonly seen disease in children and young adults. This disease spreads very quickly among people who live in crowded places and possess direct contact with each other. Places such as child care centers and nursing homes, this disease is particularly and commonly found.

Home remedies for scabies

  1. Tea Tree Oil

A compound known as terpinen-4-ol is present in the tea tree oil which helps in killing the scabies causing parasite.

Instructions for use

You need to mix one tablespoon of oil with olive oil and a cotton ball should be used for applying on the area which affected. This has to be done for at least two times in day which should be continued for two to three weeks. Moreover, while taking a bath, add 10 to 12 drops of pure oil to the bathtub containing lukewarm water.

Note- Pregnant women and nursing mothers are advised not to use tea tree oil.

  1. Neem Oil

Neem oil is a botanical pesticide which is used to take care of many skin problems including scabies. It includes antibacterial and antifungal properties that helps in removing bacteria and funguswhich is active in your skin. The scent of neem oil prevents scabies from replicating, which significantly shortens the length of the trouble.

Instructions for use

  1. Use pure Neem oil right on the affected area and massage lightly before the oil penetrates deeplyinto your skin.
  2. Wait for a while and after that take a bath.
  3. Do this for at least one time in a day and should be done for a number of weeks to stop the disease from spreading.
  4. Make an antiseptic lotion by combining two ounces each of Neem oil having an equivalent quantity of freshly ground turmeric powder.
  5. Put on the lotion on the affected area two or three times a day. This homemade lotion helps soothe itching and speeds up the healing process.
  1. Neem Leaves

The leaves of Neem can also be preferred for curing scabies because of their antifungal and antibacterialproperties.Neem leaves helps in reducing itching and possess the power of clearing the mites within a few days only.

Instructions for use

  1. A paste of handful of fresh Neem should be prepared by crushing them by using a pestle and mortar.
  2. The affected area should be washed thoroughly and then the paste should be applied.
  3. Do this daily in order to speed up the healing procedure.
  4. Boil few leaves of Neem in a cup of water and then cool it to a room temperature.
  5. Drink one tablespoon of this prepared liquid for at least three or four times a day and repeat the same for a week or two to ensure that the scabies and mites are gone completely.
  1. Cayenne pepper

Cayenne pepper helps in burning and killing the mites and provides relief.

Instructions for use

  1. Mix a cup of cayenne pepper in hot water bath.
  2. Soak the water bath until the water gets cold. Make sure that the water does not get in your eyes or else the pepper will create a burning sensation.
  3. Rinse off the cayenne pepper using cold water.
  4. This process should be repeated daily until the scabies is completely treated.

Note: Make sure not to use this process with sensitive skin.

  1. Zinc

Zinc is not going to treat scabiesdirectly, but it’ll significantly assist in preventing fungal outbreaks and fight off secondary skin diseases.

Instructions for use

  1. Grind two or three zinc pills into a fine powder. Put in a small water to create a thick paste. You can even add a little turmeric to help it become more powerful.
  2. Put on the paste on the affected skin. Leave it on for at least half an hour or so or until it dries naturally.
  3. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  4. Repeat it once daily until the scabies disease is finished.

Moreover, eat more foods rich in zinc like sunflower seeds, whole grain goods, wheat bran, and soybeans, among others.

  1. Turmeric

Turmeric is a wonder herb with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that will significantly alleviate the outward symptoms of scabies.

Instructions for use

  1. Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder along with several drops of lemon juice and water to create a thick paste.
  2. Put on the paste on the affected skin and leave it on for around an hour or so. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  3. Do this daily before you see significant improvement.
  4. Mixone teaspoon each of turmeric and Neem powder.
  5. Then add water to form a smooth paste.
  6. Apply the paste on the affected regions and allow it to dry by itself.
    After it’s dried, take a bath or shower to wash it off. Repeat this once daily.

Few things keep in mind

  1. The towels, clothes must be washed properly after using them for three days. To do the same, hot water must be used. In order to assure proper drying, one must use dryer at high heat capacity rather than using the air drying process. Moreover, the objects that cannot be washed by machine should be kept in a bag or store for a week as mites can survive on these non-living objects.
  2. Nails must be properly cut and thoroughly cleaned so to ensure the removal of any mites or eggs that might be present.
  3. Carpets, bedding, furniture and car interiors must be thoroughly cleaned using vacuum cleaner and the bag of the cleaner must be thrown away after finishing.
  4. Scratching should be avoided and open sores must be kept clean, if any. Antihistamine medications such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), cetirizine(Zyrtec), hydroxyzine (Atarax) and promethazine(Phenergan) should be used to treat itching. Additionally, measures such as calamine lotion or cool baths should not be provided while using the prescription cream as it can wash the cream and might prevent it from getting into the skin.
  5. You should shampoo your hair regularly
